Terri Ritz was a perfect 2 for 2 with a triple and 2 RBIs, while Amber Hancock was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. | FOOTBALL : 12-13-08 Kenyatta Gary - Named South Team Defensive MVP Cheraw's All-Time leading tackler Kenyatta Gary (462 tackles) led the defensive charge for the South team in Saturday's North-South All-Star game. Ken picked up 10 tackles and the South Team Defensive MVP honors in a 24-14 South victory. Congratulations Kenyatta Gary! |
| FOOTBALL : 12-2-08 #8 TRAVIS SMALL - South Carolina's #2 All-Time Leading Rusher Cheraw’s Travis Small (#8) has rushed his way into the state’s record books for both career rushing yardage (7109) and career touchdowns scored (88). The 7109 yards rushing has earns Travis the #2 spot on South Carolina’s All-Time Rushing list behind Lexington’s Demetris Summers (9076 yards) and ahead of Palmetto’s Derek Watson (6788 yards). Likewise, Travis’ 88 touchdowns place him in a tie for the #2 slot on South Carolina’s career touchdown list. Travis’s accomplishments have landed him in some very elite company but don't worry #8 can hold his own. During his tenure at Cheraw, Travis helped lead the Braves to 4 Region Championships, 3 Lower-State Championships, 2 State Championships, 1 Undefeated Season, a (16-2) playoff record, an (18-0) region record, and an overall mark of (50-8). Several of the other running backs listed in the state’s record books played in the Shrine Bowl or the North-South All-Star game and some have went on to have good college careers and a few have even made it to the NFL but only one of these tremendous rushers ever won a state championship, Travis Small (2006 & 2007). As Travis Small’s high school football career comes to an end it’s time to put his accomplishments into perspective. To say that Travis is a great high school running back would be correct but the statement would be incomplete. Travis is not only a great running back; he is also a great football player who started 58 consecutive games for the Braves despite numerous injuries. Many players have the talent to play and start on the high school varsity team for four years but very few have the ability to play at the level that Travis has during his career. <<VIEW TRAVIS SMALL'S STATS>> |

The Lady Braves eliminated Dillon by defeating them twice. Cheraw then went to Bishop England and double-dipped the Lady Bishops, who had won nine consecutive district titles, in route to winning the District 6 Championship and earning a spot in the lower-state championship playoffs where 3 of the final 4 teams were representatives from Region VIII. The Lady Braves were not content with the district title and they went right back to work as they defeated Central, Andrew Jackson, and Hanahan before losing to the Hawkettes in the lower-state championship game. Congratulations Lady Braves - Great Season!!! |
