LADY BRAVES FINISH #2 IN LOWER-STATE

Cheraw's quest for a state championship ended with a 2-1 loss at Waccamaw in the lower-state championship but the softball faithful witnessed some great games and logged several hundred miles in the process as the Lady Braves played at Waccamaw twice, at Hanahan, and at Barnwell.

Waccamaw 6 Cheraw 0
The Ladies lost the first game of the lower-state playoffs to Waccamaw 6-0. Amber Hancock led Cheraw at the plate going 1 for 2 while Nancy Crawley suffered the loss (9K, 2BB, 8H).

Cheraw 4 Barnwell 1
Cheraw sent the Lady Warhorses packing with a come-from-behind 4-1 road win. The Lady Braves trailed 1-0 with 2 outs in the top of the seventh and the bases loaded when Nancy Crawley delivered a single which platted 3 runs. Tiffany Chapman then ripped a triple to score Crawley.
Nancy Crawley drove in the winning runs and picked up the win striking out 14 and allowing just 4 hits.
Deana Ratliff led the ladies at the plate going 3 for 4 with a stolen base, while Tiffany Chapman went 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Christian Haney was 1 for 2 and walked to led off the seventh which sparked the rally.

Cheraw 2 Hanahan 0
The Lady Braves avenged last year's lower-state championship loss by defeating and eliminating the Lady Hawks 2-0 at Hanahan.
Winning pitcher Nancy Crawley stuck-out 5 and allowed 5 hits in the shut-out.
Maggie Thomas and Deana Ratliff each added 2 hits while Nancy Crawley and Tiffany Chapman had 2 hits and an RBI each.
"There were a lot of great catches by Maggie Thomas and Tiffany Chapman that really kept us alive. That was probably the best defensive game we've played all year." said Cheraw Head Coach Jamie Brown.

Waccamaw 2 Cheraw 1
The Lady Braves lose to the Lady Warriors 2-1. Waccamaw picked up both runs in the first as Nancy Crawley turned in a dominating performance striking out 9 while allowing just 3 hits over seven innings. Cheraw scored its only run of the game in the top of the seventh when Deana Ratliff singled to score Cam Scott.
Ratliff finished the game as Cheraw's leading hitter going 2 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases, and an RBI.

"Nancy pitched probably her best game of the year and we battled all the way to our final strike. I can't say enough about these girls and how hard they fought the entire season. This is by far one of the most talented groups I've enver had the pleasure of coaching." said Coach Brown.
